Progress!

Last night I finished the embroidery on my Medallion Quilt.

It took about 4 weeks to complete the embroidered border, but it was so worth it!!

For those of you who don't know, I am taking a class called Handstitched from Rachel at Stitched In Color.  The next border is patchwork with EPP Storm at Sea blocks in the corners.  I have started basting my Storm at Sea pieces but still haven't chosen the fabrics for the patchwork.  I think I may just go search my bag of strips for appropriate colours.  Hopefully this border won't take as long!

Have a great week!

BOM

I couldn't remember which block we were suppose to work on this month for our Block of the month, so I decided to work on one of the blocks I picked out instead. That way I will be ready when it is my turn to show my friends how to go about making it, in June.

I chose a pattern from the Quilter's Cache called Solomon's Star.

It is a great block with a little of a challenge... lining up all those points is not as easy as it looks! In fact I may still rip one of them out and fix it, but I am not telling you which one. Yes, I am anal like that!

Here was last month's block just to remind you:

I am using scraps and a few fat quarters from my stash, as well as a creamy coloured print for the background. So far I am having lots of fun! Can't wait till next month!

WIP Wednesday

Here is what I am working on today.

I am so loving the pink and red together in this quilt, just perfect for a little girl! I need to find the perfect backing next.

And I am still working on my satin stitched jewels for my Handstitched class.

Only 3 more after this one! I am slowly finding the fabrics for my next border which is a patchwork with storm at sea blocks in the corners!

I have also been printing off the patterns for the Moda Friendship Quilt Along. They all look lovely so far, and I am thinking of doing some embroidery in some of the blocks. I am trying to pick some fabrics for this one too and trying to decide if I should do machine or hand embroidery... Decisions, decisions!

Lil Twister Finish!

I did it, I managed to finish my Lil Twister Pillow last night.

I absolutely love it! It was so much fun and easy to make! I used all scraps for my stash for the piecing. I decided to quilt in the ditch around the pinwheels and then again around them using the width of my foot as a guide. Then I quilted in the ditch of the borders and at one inch increments in the last border. I used a variegated Valdani thread called Harvest.

I just used an old fat quarter from my stash for the back.

And there it is in it's new home, what we call our "reading room". My family seem to really like this one though and it moved into the Family room at one point in time today so this may not be it's permanent home!

Some satin stitch and the twist

I have finally started the satin stitch on my Medallion quilt.

One down, seven more to go. I really didn't enjoy the satin stitch compared to the backstitch and running stitch. This is going to take me longer than I thought.

I took a break from hand stitching today and played with my Lil' Twister ruler.

I found a cute pattern for a pillow in the Let's Twist book and came up with this:

I hope to quilt it and complete the pillow before the end of the weekend. I had so much fun and will definitely be using this ruler again... I am thinking a new table topper for the family room!

I am still here!

Sorry I have been MIA. I actually have been sewing, but also enjoying some time with my family.
It was so nice this past weekend that we decided to head out to Jacques Cartier park and enjoy some of the Winterlude festivities.
My big girl loves the Icehogs!
And we had so much fun going down the slides!
My big girl has been having fun re-organizing things in her room and she needed a table topper for her night table. So this is what I came up with:

I made it using the quilt as you go method and some of the left over strips from her sister's log cabin. I machine sewed the binding down. I don't usually like to do that but I have been so busy with my Handstitched Medallion quilt, and she was in a bit of a hurry for this one! It is the best job I have ever done with a machine sewn binding, I am giving myself a pat on the back for this one!

Speaking of my Handstitched class, here is my progress so far:

I am almost done the triangles, then it's on to some satin stitched jewels. I hope I can catch up, Wednesday is the next class. We are doing some English Paper Piecing in the next border!

TGIFF and a little progress

It's been a while since I have had a finish! Here is my mini for February.

As with all of my other minis, the pattern is from the book Count On It by Art to Heart.

I have also been working on my Medallion quilt for my Handstitched class.

Here is a look at the whole thing so far.

I am having SO much fun with this class! It is so nice to be able to sit down and just stitch, and I just love the way this quilt is coming along!

I am linking up to TGIFF. Head on over and take a look at some other great finishes and have a great weekend!
