TGIFF - Little Elephants

Updated with a couple more pictures!

It's been so long since I've had a finish to link up to TGIFF. To tell the truth, this quilt has been done for a while but I had to wait to give it to the recipient. I was going to post it last week since we gave it to baby Gabriel 2 weeks ago but I got busy and forgot.

My cousin had her little baby boy on March 10th. We are so excited to have a new little baby in the family. This little guy is going to be spoiled! So my mom and I worked together and made this quilt.

When my cousin told us the sex of the baby, she also told us his name, the colour scheme and the theme for his room. So I went to work and designed this quilt, pulling inspiration from Sarah, at Fairy Face Designs and Elizabeth Hartman at Oh Fransson!

I used my embroidery machine (Husqvarna Designer I) to appliqué the elephants and I hand embroidered the name using a stem stitch and some no. 8 pearl cotton.

My mom worked her magic on her Gammill as usual. I love the quilting she did in the sashing and borders!

I forgot to take pictures of the label but in addition to his name and birth date, I embroidered some little peanuts!

My mom brought Gabriel his quilt when he was only 6 days old. I am hoping to meet him next weekend. My cousin loves the quilt and I hope Gabriel will too.

UPDATE: My cousin sent me a picture of Gabriel on his quilt after seeing my post.

And of the label.

TGIFF is over at Devoted Quilter this week, go check out some other finishes!

Baby quilt finish!

I haven't been working much on my BOM appliqué because I've been busy handstitching binding down on some finished quilts!

So here is one of those finishes.

I worked on the top for this quilt back in January at our retreat. My friend commissioned me to make a quilt for her brand new baby niece. I loved picking fabric for this one!

I really wanted some simple quilting on it. I was suppose to quilt it myself on my mom's longarm but was running out of time so she quilted it for me.

I used a yellow flannel for the backing so it's nice and cuddly. I love the pink polka dots for the binding!

I delivered the quilt to my friend today and she loves it. I hope the baby and her parents do too!

World Wide Quilting Day!

So it's world wide quilting day. What did I do to celebrate, you ask?

I made myself a mini!!

You know I was dying to make myself one after finishing my mom's. I had picked out the fabrics earlier in the week but, it being March break, I was busy keeping the girls busy and the few times I did get to my sewing room, was to sew with my youngest (more on that in a future post).

So the fabric for the letter G was cut out but nothing else was done. I started after lunch and was done by supper time.

My husband suggested the pink floss for the embroidery and I love it! I used 4 strands and a backstitch and I think it is perfect.

I used black thread and quilted a crosshatched pattern. I think it is a good mix of modern with the fabrics and more traditional with the quilting.

I moved the furniture around in my studio a few weeks ago and that left a section of wall blank. I think it is a great spot, next to my sewing table, to have a display of minis. So this is the first mini on this wall.

I can't wait to make more!

Spell it with Fabric - A

A few weeks back I shared the link for the Moda Spell it with Fabric blog hop. I had so much fun visiting all of the blogs and printing out the instructions for all the letters. I couldn't wait to make one. My mom was coming back from Florida on the 22 of February so I thought I would make her a mini with the letter A. Her name is Alice so I hand embroidered it on there to add a little something. I used an eggplant coloured fabric for the A and a tone on tone white for the background. I embroidered her name with two different grey pearl cotton threads and I used a grey fabric for the binding. I quilted it with a white thread, stitching diagonal lines 1 inch apart.

It's so cute, I love it! I can't wait to make myself a G, and I promised my girls they could make themselves each one too!

Swoon blocks - 7 done, 2 to go!

I worked on my latest Swoon block yesterday and realized I haven't yet shared them with all of you.

I started making these blocks back in January when I went to the retreat with my friends. Once you make one, and you get the hang of it, they are so much fun to make. I love piecing so these are really my kind of block.

Here are my blocks so far:

I am so looking forward to making the last two blocks and putting this baby together. I think it will look lovely on my bed.
