WIP Wednesday - 05/28/2014

I have finished the applique on block number 2 from my BOM.

Here are the first 2 blocks together.

I still need to add the embroidery stitches but I think I am going to do that when I have a few more blocks done.

And I started block number 3.

I am linking up to The Needle and Thread Network for WIP Wednesday! Go check out some other works in progress.

Blogger's Quilt Festival - spring 2014 (Stars)

I love when it's Blogger's Quilt Festival time! I can go to a quilt show but stay in my pj's with a cup of tea!

This year I am entering my latest bed quilt, my Friendship Stars.

This quilt was 5 years in the making!
The pattern is from Quilt Sampler from fall/winter 2008.
It took so long to make because I needed breaks when it came to piecing the stars in the border and then adding the borders to the top.
My mom quilted it on her longarm machine. I asked her specifically for the feathers in the cream parts. I wanted it to look like they were weaving in and out. She had creative licence with the rest.

This quilt was definitely worth the wait.

I love the final product and it looks fantastic on our bed!

TGIFF - Spring mini

I needed a mini quilt to hang on my little stand on my telephone table.

Some of you may remember me working on minis every month, back in 2012. I also made these cupcake minis for our birthdays.

Well, I never got around to making the minis for April, May or June. So last week, I found myself a cute little embroidery block in my digital library. I found a nice orange floral fabric and used it to pick out the thread for the embroidery. I stitched it out with my embroidery machine and then bordered it, including a periwinkle little folded border.

Then I quilted around the embroidery and in the border. I simply used straight lines. I followed the edge of my foot but I moved my needle over as far as I could so the lines wouldn't be too close together.

I found this lovely gold fabric in my stash to use for the binding.

I think it is adorable and it will be perfect in the stand for the months of April, May and June!

I am linking this finish up to TGIFF over at My Quilt Infatation. Go check out some other great finishes!

WIP Wednesday - 05/14/2014

Well, it's been a long time since I've posted about my Works In Progress. I am still working on My BOM - Woodland Christmas. Although I am behind, I am still enjoying doing the hand appliqué every once in a while.

Here is where I am at with Block number 2:

I think I will be having more time to work on this project over the summer months.

Today I am binding this little mini quilt.

I will be sharing it on Friday as my TGIFF post.

Today I am linking up to WIP Wednesday over at TN&TN. Go check out what other Canadians are working on!

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day

The giveaway is now closed.

It has been a really long time since I have had a giveaway. I think Sew Mama Sew's Giveaway Day is the perfect time to get back into it. It is also a great opportunity to thank all of you who take the time to visit and to come and read my blog.

If you are new here, Hello! My name is Ginette and I live in Ottawa Ontario Canada. I am a 4th generation quilter and I love sharing my passion for making things with fabric and thread. I hope you will take the time to snoop around my blog and check out what I have been working on!

So what am I giving away? I thought I would give you the opportunity to win this zipper pouch I made.

It is a small coin purse size, measuring 5.5" x 3.5" on the outside. My iphone 4S fits in the pouch but a phone any bigger than that will not fit. This pouch is great for carrying small items like your lipgloss, some medication, gum and some money and/or credit cards. I have a friend who is a teacher and she stores her USB sticks in hers.

The inside of the pouch is lined with a nice small white dot on blue.

So to enter my giveaway, please leave a comment and let me know what your favourite fabric line is at the moment.

If you follow my blog, let me know in a seperate comment for a second chance to win.

And if you follow me on Facebook, let me know for a third chance to win.

No reply bloggers, please leave your email address in your comment. I am willing to ship internationally. This giveaway is open until Friday, May 16th at 8 p.m. EDT. I will let Mr. Random Number Generator pick the winner and announce on May 17th.

Be sure to head over to Sew Mama Sew for other great giveaways!

Have a great week!

TGIFF - Granny Squares

My Granny Squares quilt has been done for a few months now but I couldn't get photos that I was satisfied with so I haven't posted about it until now.

This quilt was so much fun to make.  I used a Jelly Roll of Kate Spain's Serenade.  I bought the grey background fabric at my LQS.  I think it is the perfect match for the Jelly Roll.

I used this tutorial over at Moda Bakeshop. It's by Jolene from Blue Elephant Stitches.  The blocks are so easy to make.

I wasn't sure how I wanted to put the quilt together.  I talked it over with my mom and I knew I wanted something different.  She suggested this setting where the rows are just a little off, and I just love it.

I used up some of the left over strips for the borders and bound it with the grey from the background.

I am linking up to TGIFF over at Quilt Matters this week but you can also see this quilt this weekend at the CommonThread Quilt Guild show in Ottawa.
