TGIFF - Little Elephants

Updated with a couple more pictures!

It's been so long since I've had a finish to link up to TGIFF. To tell the truth, this quilt has been done for a while but I had to wait to give it to the recipient. I was going to post it last week since we gave it to baby Gabriel 2 weeks ago but I got busy and forgot.

My cousin had her little baby boy on March 10th. We are so excited to have a new little baby in the family. This little guy is going to be spoiled! So my mom and I worked together and made this quilt.

When my cousin told us the sex of the baby, she also told us his name, the colour scheme and the theme for his room. So I went to work and designed this quilt, pulling inspiration from Sarah, at Fairy Face Designs and Elizabeth Hartman at Oh Fransson!

I used my embroidery machine (Husqvarna Designer I) to appliqué the elephants and I hand embroidered the name using a stem stitch and some no. 8 pearl cotton.

My mom worked her magic on her Gammill as usual. I love the quilting she did in the sashing and borders!

I forgot to take pictures of the label but in addition to his name and birth date, I embroidered some little peanuts!

My mom brought Gabriel his quilt when he was only 6 days old. I am hoping to meet him next weekend. My cousin loves the quilt and I hope Gabriel will too.

UPDATE: My cousin sent me a picture of Gabriel on his quilt after seeing my post.

And of the label.

TGIFF is over at Devoted Quilter this week, go check out some other finishes!

  7. Beautiful quilt! It is very crisp and fun looking and does not have the stark bleakness (some call it negative space) that some modern quilts have. I love the use of turquoise rather than the standard boy blue and the grays complement it very well. Great job both in design and execution. It makes you just want to cuddle up with it... and with the baby, too!
